I Am This Age

From Business Owner to Educator: Tom Lux, Age 82

Episode Summary

Meet Tom Lux! Tom started a family early in life and had a successful sales career that led him to start his own company at 50. When he lost his biggest client, he was forced to shut it down, which eventually led him back to school to get his Associate’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in his late 50’s/early 60’s. Tom wrote a book called “The Golden Attitude” (which you can purchase online through Amazon or Google). The Golden Attitude challenges you to solve any problem by asking, “what’s good about this?” He believes, “every adversity carries with it an equal or better opportunity to the thing that was lost.” He’s applied this theory to the loss of jobs and to the loss of his wife and daughter. Tom believes that it’s about how you choose to respond to the loss, rather than the loss itself. And if you think he’s full of shit, think again. Every time I talk to Tom, he’s in the highest of spirits. He’s a true ray of sunshine. I can’t help but smile when I hear from him. We should all be more like Tom.
